Infrared Therapy

Infrared therapy, also known as infrared sauna therapy or infrared light therapy, utilizes infrared light to generate heat and deliver therapeutic advantages to the body. Infrared light falls within the electromagnetic wave spectrum, possessing longer wavelengths than visible light but shorter wavelengths than radio waves. When the body absorbs the heat generated by infrared light, it triggers various physiological effects.

Unlike traditional saunas that rely on heating elements to elevate the air temperature, infrared saunas use infrared light to directly heat the body while maintaining the air temperature in the surrounding environment. This results in an increase in core body temperature without the need to endure extremely high ambient temperatures, such as those found in conventional saunas set at around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, many individuals find infrared saunas more comfortable.

Infrared therapy offers a range of potential benefits. Regular sauna sessions can contribute to improved cardiovascular conditions by lowering blood pressure and alleviating symptoms of congestive heart failure. It may also have a positive impact on lung health, with studies showing a reduced risk of pneumonia and improvements in asthma symptoms. Additionally, infrared therapy is advantageous for pain management, as it has been associated with decreased symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia, while also showing potential in alleviating tension headaches according to one study.
